The 2014 Council of Scientific Affairs panel review of
the evidence failed to find an association between dental procedures and
prosthetic joint infection, concluding that prophylactic antibiotic use is

professional judgment and the patient's needs and preferences. Additionally,
information pertaining to the appropriate-use criteria on prophylactic
antibiotic use in dental patients with prosthetic joints will be presented.
