Course Overview
How does a dentist interested in promoting the HPV vaccine build a collaboration with a medical provider? What actions can states take to build collaborative partnerships that increase HPV vaccination? Please join Jessica Jack MD FAAP, Pediatrician, & Scott Hamilton, DDS, Pediatric Dentist, Denver Health, and Tommy Johnson, DMD, State Dental Director, Alabama Department of Public Health, to discuss partnership models and more.

This course is the third in the three-part series "HPV Cancers in Action" from the ADA Council on Advocacy for Access & Prevention (CAAP). More than ever, there is a need to increase awareness of HPV and of educating the public on the need for HPV immunization. The administration of the HPV vaccine is a safe and effective way to reduce the risk of HPV-related cancers, including certain head and neck cancers. HPV is now associated with more than 20,000 cases of head and neck cancer each year in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Learning objectives
• Understand how dentistry and medicine can collaborate to promote primary prevention of HPV
• Understand the lessons learned from a pilot project including dentists, pediatricians, and efforts to increase pediatric vaccination rates
• Experience an example of a multi-factorial, interdisciplinary collaboration to educate providers on HPV-related oral and oropharyngeal cancers and the importance of promotion of the HPV vaccine
