In celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the ADA and the Society of American Indian Dentists hosted this panel discussion "Amplifying Voices: Decolonizing Dentistry." American Indians and Alaskan Natives (AI/AN), also referred to as Native Americans, currently suffer from the worst oral health outcomes in comparison to any racial or ethnic group within the United States.

The discussion covers:
• Ways to make dentistry more inclusive to indigenous populations (patients and professionals)
• How the infrastructure/profession of dentistry may challenge indigenous cultural values
•Ways indigenous populations celebrate culture in their practice
• Oral health disparities and barriers indigenous people face due to marginalization
• Personal experiences about their indigenous heritage and how it has informed and impacted their careers as dentists

The dental profession is one of the most at-risk professions in the area of musculoskeletal injury due to multiple ergonomic risk factors. The dental practitioner has many elements to consider when attempting to reduce these risk factors and extend their career life. In addition to posture, which is what most people think about when the term "ergonomics" is mentioned, there are considerations in PPE, microbreaks, and operatory design. Each of these areas can either enhance or diminish the health of the dental practitioner's body. At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to identify new ergonomic concerns as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, learn about the importance of stretching and microbreaks, and the importance of operatory design and layout to preserve musculoskeletal health.

The dental profession is at high risk for musculoskeletal disorders (MSD), with 96% of practitioners reporting pain due to clinical work habits. This is due to repetitive movements, bending, twisting, reaching, incorrect operator and patient positioning, and performing repetitive movements in a static posture.
