Following the Path of Oral Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment
Open Tabs

The path to oral cancer diagnosis involves the diagnosis and treatment of the cancer. The diagnosis of oral cancer involves the discussion of risk factors with the patient, a hands-on evaluation of radiographs, intraoral tissue, and the head and neck area. Once a suspicion is established of a lesion, the patient is referred for further evaluation by the treatment specialist. It is important to realize that the sooner a specious lesion if diagnosed and staged, the better the outcome. The lecture further covers the need for the general dentist and specialist to work together with post-treatment care.

After this course, you will be able to:

  • Explore the basics of the oral cancer screening exam
  • Examine the specialist’s viewpoint of staging and treatment for defined cancer lesions
  • Discuss the follow-up care necessary for head and neck cancer patients
