David Whiston

Dr. David Whiston

David Whiston, D.D.S. received his doctor of dental science degree from West Virginia University in 1965. He completed an internship and residency in oral surgery at the University of Texas Medical Branch and an oral surgery residency at the University of Pennsylvania. After earning his specialty credentials, Dr. Whiston entered private practice in Northern Virginia. He became involved in organized dentistry early in his career and over the years has served many professional associations. Dr. Whiston became a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1972. He served as President of the Virginia Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1977, President of the Virginia-Greater Washington and Middle Atlantic Societies of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1979, President of the Middle Atlantic Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons in 1981, President of the Northern Virginia Dental Society in 1980, and President of the Virginia Dental Association in 1992. Dr. Whiston has held more leadership roles than can be listed here. At the national level, Dr. Whiston served as President of the American Dental Association from 1997-1998, and President of the ADA Foundation from 2010-2014. He served on the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals as the ADA representative from 2000-2011 and as its Chair from 2009-2010. His other roles include Ambassador, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Foundation, 2005-2010; Secretary/Treasurer, Children’s Hospital-Children’s National; Board member, National Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped; and Chair, ADA Council on Access, Prevention and Interprofessional Relations (two terms).
