Safe, effective treatment of acute postoperative pain is essential for patient satisfaction and a successful dental practice. This course will review how, beyond providing a prescription for an opioid-containing analgesic, several strategies are now accepted to improve acute postoperative pain management, including using peripherally acting analgesics and steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs preoperatively and intraoperatively and administration of long-acting local anesthetics to delay pain onset.

Does the translucency of your zirconia restoration have an effect on its mechanical properties? If so, should you be concerned about it? This course examines the effect that translucency has on properties, such as flexural strength and fracture toughness, based on testing performed in the American Dental Association Research Laboratory on specimens prepared by different dental laboratories around the world.

• Discuss the effect of translucency on the mechanical properties of zirconia
  Describe how dental laboratory processing can affect zirconia restoration outcomes
  Evaluate how mechanical property values of zirconia are determined

The Current Dental Terminology (CDT) Code evolves annually to meet needs of dentists and the dental community. This course will review significant CDT changes for 2019 to illustrate the process. Participants in this course are encouraged to ask questions and express their thoughts on current and upcoming CDT Code versions as well as their new procedure concepts. American Dental Association members from the Council on Dental Benefit Programs are the moderators and will answer questions.

Is the enamel loss you observe in a patient due to bruxism or dental acid erosion? This course will share cases demonstrating dental acid erosion. How to distinguish dental acid erosion from bruxism and differentiate acid erosion caused by dietary acids from gastroesophageal reflux or bulimia will be covered. Techniques to document the progression of erosion and keys to managing and preventing dental acid erosion will also be highlighted.

This course will teach strategies for reviewing contracts. Learn to identify contractual provisions that can cause problems later and how to parse through these provisions.
